Millennium City Residents Urge Government on Power Issues

Residents of Millennium City in Kaduna have raised concerns and appealed to the Kaduna state government for intervention in their ongoing dispute with Kaduna Electric. The issue revolves around the proposed replacement of existing electricity meters and the recent disconnection of the community, which residents argue poses significant security risks, particularly at night.

Shafik Muazu Shira, Chairman of the Ministerial Plot Housing Estate Residents Associations (MPHERA), stated that while residents support proper metering and the development of the electricity sector, they are troubled by the manner in which the meter replacement is being executed. The residents have established an electricity committee to safeguard their interests and have taken the matter to court, requesting that Kaduna Electric suspend further actions until the case is resolved.

Shira emphasized the need for compliance with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) Customer Protection Regulations and expressed concerns over the safety implications of leaving the community without electricity.
