Metropolitan Electric Proposes Roadmap for EV Adoption

At the 3rd Nigeria Auto Industry Summit in Lagos, Olugbenga Obadina, the Chief Executive Officer of Metropolitan Electric Limited, urged for a coordinated six-point roadmap to facilitate the mass adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in Nigeria. He stated that the country has reached a critical point in transitioning to electric mobility, where the challenge lies in executing existing policies rather than formulating new ones.

Obadina highlighted the National Automotive Industry Development Plan (NAIDP) 2023–2033, which aims for a 30% local EV production share and 40% local content, as a foundational element for EV adoption. He pointed out the importance of reducing uncertainties and costs for operators and investors, emphasizing the need for predictable rules and long-term financing.

Metropolitan Electric proposed a six-move “Nigeria EV Compact,” which includes publishing a stable 10-year EV roadmap, creating anchor demand through government procurement quotas, and treating charging infrastructure as regulated infrastructure.
