Mexico Reports First Human Case of Deadly Screwworm Infection

Mexico's Health Ministry has confirmed the country's first human case of myiasis, a parasitic infection caused by the New World screwworm, in a 77-year-old woman from Acacoyagua, Chiapas. The woman is currently in stable condition and receiving appropriate antibiotic treatment to combat the parasitic infection.

Myiasis occurs when fly larvae infest open wounds or sores on a live host, feeding on live tissue and potentially causing complications if left untreated. This case highlights the importance of prompt treatment to prevent further complications.
