Guillermo Ochoa Retires from Professional Football

Guillermo Ochoa, the 41-year-old Mexican goalkeeper, has officially announced his retirement from professional football, concluding a remarkable career that lasted more than 22 years. He shared the news on social media after participating in his sixth World Cup.

Ochoa played a pivotal role in Mexico's 2-0 victory over the Czech Republic, receiving applause from fans at the Azteca Stadium, where he made his senior debut for Club America in 2004. In his retirement announcement, he expressed his dedication, stating, “I gave it my all; I left everything on the field for my clubs and the national team, and today I hang up my gloves.” Ochoa first represented Mexico on the world stage at the 2006 World Cup in Germany and went on to compete in South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014, Russia 2018, and Qatar 2022, where he notably saved a penalty from Poland’s Robert Lewandowski.

Throughout his career, Ochoa played in various countries, including France, Spain, Belgium, Italy, and Portugal.
