Military Center Screens 1,450 Terror Suspects in Nigeria

The military center at Giwa Barrack in Maiduguri concluded investigations involving 1,450 terror suspects, with 500 of them sent for trial. Brig.

Gen. Yusuf Audu announced this during a briefing, emphasizing the center's role in a coordinated effort against Boko Haram and ISWAP.

The screening process involved a structured legal review and categorized suspects for prosecution, rehabilitation, or reintegration based on the complexity of their cases. The center operates under a multi-agency platform, including personnel from the Nigerian Army, Defence Intelligence Agency, Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies.

It maintains strict custody of documents and provides basic education and healthcare for detainees, including special provisions for women and children. The facility also offers skill acquisition programs to aid reintegration post-detention.

The command highlighted significant progress in handling terror cases, with a focus on maintaining human rights safeguards and judicial oversight.
