Kaduna Governor Claims Military Junta Killed Journalist

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has publicly asserted that journalist Bagauda Kaltho was murdered by a military junta during the regime of former Head of State Sani Abacha, with Kaltho having gone missing in late 1996 or early 1997. This assertion comes as a fresh investigation into Kaltho's death has been called for, following a Federal High Court order in Abuja for the federal government to investigate and prosecute the killers of journalists in Nigeria from 1986 to 2023, including Kaltho.

The family of Kaltho has described this as a vindication of his legacy, countering longstanding misinformation regarding his disappearance. Governor Sani recounted the events leading to Kaltho's death, emphasizing the risks faced by journalists and activists during the struggle against military rule.

He also highlighted the importance of democracy and the need for accountability in the face of past injustices.
