AI Cameras to Enhance Security in Plateau State

On a recent visit to Jos, Plateau State, Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, unveiled a plan to deploy a network of artificial intelligence-enabled surveillance cameras across the state. This initiative aims to improve security in the region, which has faced significant violence, including a recent attack that claimed 28 lives.

Tijani recounted his personal experience during the 2001 Jos crisis, emphasizing the importance of peace and security for the future. He confirmed that President Bola Tinubu has ordered the installation of CCTV cameras in Plateau State, with a commitment to deepen the state's digital infrastructure.

The project is part of a broader effort to mobilize resources for enhancing security and ensuring faster crime detection and response times. Tijani highlighted that similar solutions have already been implemented in states like Lagos and Enugu, indicating a proactive approach to addressing ongoing insecurity in Nigeria.
