Federal Government Backs Onyeka Ikenga Football Academy

The Federal Government has pledged support for the Onyeka Ikenga Football Academy, which aims to discover and develop young football talents in Nigeria. Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, made this announcement on Saturday in Abuja during the unveiling of the academy’s Under-17 team, represented by his Special Adviser on Public Engagement, Omoleye Adedoyin.

Olawande highlighted the academy as a vital platform for talent identification and skill development, assuring continued government support for youth empowerment through sports. The event featured remarks from Chairman Moses Ebute, SAN, who expressed optimism that the academy would produce future Super Eagles players.

Ngozi Ikenga, the academy's Chairperson, noted that it was established in July 2023 in memory of her late daughter, Onyeka Ikenga, who was passionate about football. She revealed that one Under-17 player has secured a chance to join a Saudi Arabian football club.

The academy's football development program is set to be an annual event.
