Ministry Enhances Enforcement of Seafarers' Rights

The Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, represented by Adegboyega Oyetola, announced a commitment to stricter enforcement of seafarers' rights and labor standards during the 2026 Seafarers' Day event in Lagos. Oyetola emphasized the need to uphold national and international maritime obligations to ensure fair treatment of seafarers.

Musa Makoji, the Executive Director of Maritime Safety and Security, reiterated that the welfare of the maritime workforce is non-negotiable. Oyetola acknowledged the vital role of seafarers in global trade, highlighting their sacrifices and the risks they face, including geopolitical tensions and complex operational challenges.

Dr. Dayo Mobereola, Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), noted that the annual observance of Seafarers' Day provides an opportunity to recognize the invaluable contributions of seafarers.

The event underscored the importance of protecting and empowering seafarers as part of the maritime governance agenda.
