Mob Burns Transformer Vandal Alive in Calabar, Cross River

On February 10, 2026, in Calabar, Cross River State, a mob set an unidentified young man ablaze after he was allegedly involved in vandalizing a transformer. This violent act took place at Palm Street, near Target Junction.

Reports indicate that members of a local vigilante team apprehended the suspect before the mob executed him. The police were alerted and quickly mobilized to the scene, where they found the burnt corpse in front of the transformer.

Items recovered from the scene included an old model electric meter box and pieces of copper wire and electric cable, which are typically associated with vandalism. The police public relations officer, ASP Eitokpah, confirmed the incident and condemned the mob action, emphasizing that such acts of jungle justice are illegal and unacceptable.

The public was advised to allow the police to conduct proper investigations and prosecutions rather than taking the law into their own hands.
