Mob Lynches Man Over Alleged Motorcycle Theft in Kano

On Sunday night, a young man named Ahmad Dankoli was lynched by a mob in Balar Town, Ajingi Local Government Area, Kano State, over allegations of attempting to steal a motorcycle. The incident occurred shortly after 9 PM, coinciding with market activities in the town.

According to Malam Shu Aibu Abdulmumin Yalo, a councillor representing Balar Ward, the deceased was accused of trying to steal a motorcycle belonging to a trader. Witnesses reported that a friend of the trader saw the alleged theft attempt and alerted others, leading to a gathering of people who began to beat Dankoli.

Although security personnel arrived to restore order, they were overwhelmed by the sheer number of residents. In a fit of anger, the mob seized the body and set it on fire.

Yalo noted that the community has been grappling with frequent motorcycle thefts, with 32 reported stolen in recent months, fueling public anger. The Kano Police's public relations officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, stated that the case had not yet been reported to the police but promised to investigate.
