Mob Lynching of Teacher in Kaduna Sparks Outrage

Last week, a teacher from Malama Ummulkhair Islamiyya School was lynched by a mob in Maraban Jo, Igabi Local Government Area, Kaduna State, after being falsely accused of attempting to steal children attending an Islamic lecture. The accusation spread quickly, drawing a large crowd that attacked the teacher.

Security operatives intervened to protect her, but the situation escalated as hundreds of angry youths besieged the nearby police station, demanding her handover. Despite efforts by security personnel to restore order, the mob overpowered the officers and set the police station ablaze.

Amnesty International condemned the incident, describing it as a horrific act of mob violence and calling for an investigation into the police's handling of the situation. The Kaduna State Police Command reported the arrest of 80 suspects connected to the killing, asserting that the victim was wrongfully accused.

The organization lamented the growing normalization of mob justice in Nigeria and criticized the government's silence on the matter.
