Mob Burns Suspected Kidnappers' Hideout in Anambra

A mob in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area, Anambra State, set fire to a suspected kidnappers' hideout after the rescue of Dr. Edwin Emegakor, a medical doctor abducted on May 7, 2026.

He was held captive for three days before being rescued on May 10, 2026, during a fierce gun battle involving the Nigeria Police Force's anti-kidnap squad, which resulted in the death of one police officer and injuries to two others. Dr.

Emegakor, who is the medical director at Crown Multi-Specialist Hospital in Nkpor, was abducted while attending to patients. Following his rescue, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) expressed concerns over rising insecurity in the state and called for stronger security measures.

Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo was thanked for the security agencies' efforts. The mob's actions were fueled by anger over the alleged criminal activities linked to the property, which was reportedly owned by a trader known as Fabul Mgbuka.
