APC Criticizes Makinde for Crowning High Chiefs as Obas

The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned Governor Seyi Makinde for what they describe as a mockery of Yoruba traditional institutions. This criticism follows the governor's recent coronation of three high chiefs—Akeem Adewoyeh, Kola Babalola, and Sharafadeen Alli—as Obas in Ibadanland.

The APC's statement, signed by its public secretary Wasiu Sadar, asserts that this act is a shameful deviation from the historical significance of the Oba title. The party claims that the governor's actions represent a troubling trend among public servants and expresses disappointment over the installation ceremony, which they characterized as lacking respect for tradition, exemplified by the presence of an empty chair for the Oba.

The APC's response highlights their concern over the implications of such actions on the cultural fabric of the Yoruba people.
