Moderna Secures $60M for Ebola Vaccine Development

Moderna and other organizations have secured $60 million in funding to develop a vaccine for the Bundibugyo Ebola virus (BDBV). Richard Hatchett, the head of the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), announced that the vaccine is expected to be ready for trials within a couple of months.

Currently, there are no approved vaccines or treatments for BDBV. Hatchett emphasized that the development of the vaccine is crucial and will help initiate discussions on building a fund for vaccine rollouts.

He also cautioned that vaccine development can face unpredictable challenges, particularly due to the complex security situation in Eastern Congo, where trials may take place.
