Wike Advocates for Recycling to Improve Abuja's Cleanliness

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, stated that the current monthly sanitation exercise is inadequate for keeping Abuja clean. During an inspection tour of ongoing projects, he argued that merely cleaning drains and collecting waste once a month does not effectively manage the city's waste.

Wike called for investment in waste recycling plants to tackle the city's waste management challenges. He highlighted that successful waste management requires a reliable recycling system that transforms waste into new products, rather than just focusing on disposal.

Wike disclosed that discussions are already underway with the FCT Administration regarding proposals from firms experienced in waste product projects abroad, aiming to push for recycling facilities that align with broader efforts to improve sanitation and sustainability in the capital.
