Tinubu Approves 80% Pay Rise for 250,000 Troops

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a significant salary increase for approximately 250,000 troops in the Nigerian Armed Forces, with raises ranging from 30% to 80%. This new pay structure, effective from September 1, will elevate the military's annual wage bill from N660 billion to N924 billion.

Junior soldiers are expected to benefit the most from this increase, although serving personnel have indicated they will wait to see the actual figures in their accounts before forming a judgment. Additionally, the Defence Headquarters has announced an extension of its surrender policy to armed groups in the South-East, South-South, and South-West regions, which was previously limited to northern insurgents and bandits.

While there is no set deadline for this policy, the military has warned that kinetic operations will intensify against those who do not comply.
