Tinubu's Pay Rise for Military to Enhance National Security

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North in the National Assembly and chair of the Senate Committee on the South East Development Commission, commended President Bola Tinubu for approving a significant salary increase for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces. The salary review, which ranges from 30 to 80 percent, is set to take effect on September 1 and will benefit approximately 250,000 military personnel, increasing the Federal Government’s annual military wage bill by an estimated N264 billion.

Kalu stated that this decision reflects the administration's recognition of the importance of military welfare in national security. He urged military personnel and security agencies to reciprocate by demonstrating professionalism and respect for citizens' rights.

Kalu emphasized that improving the welfare of troops is both a moral obligation and essential for strengthening Nigeria's security architecture, as military personnel make significant sacrifices to protect the nation from various security threats.
