Mother and Three Children Die in Yobe Fire Incident

On August 21, 2026, a tragic fire incident in Yobe State claimed the lives of Bilkisu, the wife of Mallam Bukar, and their three children, Zainab, Hafsat, and Salamatu. The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA) reported the incident occurred around 5 PM.

Following the tragedy, the deceased were buried according to Islamic rites, while the surviving family members were rendered homeless due to the destruction of their residence and belongings. Dr Muhammad Ibrahim Jalo, the Director of Search and Rescue Operations at YOSEMA, informed a Daily Trust reporter in Damaturu that a joint assessment and condolence visit was conducted to the affected community.

The assessment team, which included YOSEMA officials, representatives from the Karasuwa Local Government Authority, and community stakeholders, documented the destruction and identified the immediate needs of the survivors, such as emergency relief materials, temporary shelter, and psychosocial support. YOSEMA is committed to coordinating humanitarian assistance and urged community collaboration to prevent future fire outbreaks.
