Suspect Confesses to Selling Child for N1.3 Million

Sundai Onom was arrested by the Inspector General of Police's Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in Onitsha, Anambra State, for allegedly selling a friend's child for N1.3 million. During interrogation, Onom admitted that financial hardship, following the loss of his job as a private driver, led him to engage in child trafficking.

He confessed that his first operation involved taking a child from a friend, for which he received N1.3 million. Onom further revealed that he later participated in operations involving two additional children, earning a total of N3.6 million from his alleged activities.

His girlfriend reportedly played a coordinating role, and their son allegedly assisted in moving the children to agreed locations for handover to members of the trafficking syndicate. The arrests followed intelligence-led operations at a hotel in Onitsha, where the children were kept awaiting further instructions from network members.
