Mourinho Leads Benfica to Unbeaten Season Finish

José Mourinho, the manager of Benfica, concluded the domestic season unbeaten, achieving a record of 23 wins and 11 draws. Benfica rounded off their campaign with a 3-1 victory against Estoril Praia on Saturday, marking the 34th fixture of the season.

However, despite this historic milestone, Benfica finished third in the Primeira Liga table with 80 points, trailing behind champions FC Porto, who secured the title with 88 points, and Sporting CP, who finished second with 82 points. This season became a rare instance where a team went through the entire season unbeaten yet failed to win the league title.

Consequently, Benfica did not qualify for the Champions League and will instead participate in the Europa League next season.
