MTN Nigeria Addresses Data Depletion Issues in Abuja

MTN Nigeria has attributed the unnecessary depletion of data bundles for many Nigerians to the failure to optimize mobile phone settings and manage data consumption. This statement was made during the Data on Trial experience organized by MTN Nigeria on a Monday in Abuja.

CEO Karl Toriola pointed out that operational costs, including expenses for electricity and transportation, significantly impact data pricing in Nigeria, with MTN spending approximately N4.05 trillion on power in the previous year. Mike Ndukwe, the General Manager of Network Performance and Quality Assurance at MTN Nigeria, noted that activities such as video streaming, social media usage, and automatic downloads contribute to rapid data depletion.

He advised users to disable automatic media downloads, restrict background data usage, and configure applications to download large files only when connected to Wi-Fi. Ndukwe emphasized that data depletion is generally due to users' online activities or phone settings rather than unexplained deductions.
