MTN-SAIL Fellowship Trains 5,000 Teachers in AI

The MTN-SAIL Teachers’ Fellowship, a collaboration between the SAIL Empowerment Foundation and MTN Foundation, has successfully trained 5,000 Nigerian public school teachers in Inquiry-Based Learning and artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted teaching. This training is part of the second cohort of the fellowship, with a graduation ceremony held on Thursday at the MTN Roof-Top Event Hall in Falomo, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Of the 5,000 trained, 500 selected participants graduated, making this cohort the first to incorporate a formal AI component, with curriculum support from Microsoft. The initiative, founded in 2022, has now trained over 10,000 teachers nationwide.

Mrs. Feyisola Abiru, Co-Founder of SAIL Empowerment Foundation, emphasized the critical role of teachers in Nigeria's education system and urged graduates to apply their knowledge in classrooms and share it with peers. Three outstanding graduates were recognized for their commitment, receiving laptops to support their continued learning.

Plans for a permanent SAIL Alumni Network and an inaugural celebration in December were also announced.
