MURIC Demands Clarity from FG Over Alleged US Military Presence in Nigeria

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has called on the Nigerian government to clarify reports suggesting the presence of US troops in Nigeria. MURIC's Executive Director, Prof.

Ishaq Akintola, expressed unease over the secrecy surrounding the reported deployment, raising concerns about national sovereignty and safety. Akintola cautioned against framing the mission as solely for protecting Christians, emphasizing the need for transparency and the avoidance of religious tensions.

He highlighted the insecurity in Nigeria affecting both Christians and Muslims and warned against portraying the crisis as a religious genocide. MURIC urged the Nigerian National Assembly to demand accountability and transparency regarding the purpose and scope of any foreign military operations on Nigerian soil.

They also called for civil society organizations, labor unions, and student bodies to speak out against perceived injustices and deepen mistrust. Akintola emphasized the importance of promoting freedom of religion for both Christians and Muslims in Nigeria.
