MURIC Urges Nigerian Government to Clarify US Military Presence Amid Sovereignty Concerns

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has demanded that the Nigerian government provide explanations regarding the reported presence of US military troops in Nigeria. MURIC, led by its Executive Director Prof.

Ishaq Akintola, expressed concerns about national sovereignty and safety, questioning the secrecy surrounding the US troop operations in the country. They emphasized the need for transparency regarding the scope and purpose of the foreign military presence.

Akintola criticized the perception that the mission was solely to protect Christians, highlighting the need for cooperation in the fight against terrorism without compromising Nigeria's sovereignty. MURIC warned against religious discrimination and urged the government to involve the National Assembly in demanding accountability and transparency.

They called on civil society groups, labor unions, and student bodies to speak out against perceived injustices and deepen divisions. Akintola emphasized the importance of promoting freedom of religion for both Christians and Muslims in Nigeria.
