Aminchi Centre Critiques MURIC's Ultimatum to Defence Minister

The Aminchi Centre for Social Advocacy and Community Development criticized the 14-day ultimatum issued by the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) to the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), demanding he address the worsening insecurity in Sokoto State or resign. In a statement titled “MURIC’s 14-Day Ultimatum: A Call for Responsibility, Not Scapegoating,” Chairman and CEO Brahim Abdullahi Shuni argued that MURIC's focus on the Defence Minister overlooked the complexities of Nigeria's security structure, which involves multiple institutions including the Presidency, Armed Forces, and local governments.

Shuni emphasized that the Minister is not the Commander-in-Chief and cannot unilaterally prevent attacks. He referenced Section 218 of the 1999 Constitution, which grants the President the authority over military operations.

Shuni called for MURIC and other organizations to contribute constructively to security efforts rather than solely criticize, questioning the effectiveness of their ultimatum directed at one individual within a larger security framework.
