MUSLIM RIGHTS GROUP GIVES DEFENCE MINISTER ULTIMATUM

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), demanding decisive action to halt the ongoing killings and attacks in Sokoto State or face resignation. This ultimatum begins on Monday, August 24, 2026.

MURIC's Founder and Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, expressed concern over the alarming rise in violence, reporting at least 43 deaths and 19 abductions in the past three weeks. The victims were predominantly Muslims, and the violence has instilled fear among residents, prompting some to flee their homes.

Akintola referenced Musa's earlier commitment to combat insecurity upon taking office, stating that the current situation indicates a failure to fulfill that promise. MURIC emphasized the strategic importance of Sokoto as a center for the Nigerian Muslim community and called for enhanced security measures, including a robust defense mechanism around vulnerable areas.

The group also noted a recent warning from the Department of State Services regarding potential terrorist attacks on educational institutions in the state.
