Beautiful Nubia Accuses Ayefele, BBO of Copyright Infringement

Renowned Nigerian folk musician Beautiful Nubia has publicly accused gospel artist Yinka Ayefele and emerging singer BBO of unlawfully reproducing melodies from his 1997 track "Seven Life" in BBO's 2026 song "Amin" without proper consent or attribution. Nubia raised these concerns via his official X account on Thursday, emphasizing a recurring disregard for copyright within the Nigerian music industry.

He specifically pointed out that Ayefele's 2012 release "Faith God Igbagbo Ireti" heavily borrows from the melody of his original composition. Nubia criticized the lack of respect for intellectual property among gospel performers, questioning when Nigerian musicians would learn to respect copyright laws.

As of now, neither Yinka Ayefele nor BBO has released an official statement addressing these claims. This copyright dispute is part of a broader trend of copyright-related disagreements surfacing in Nigeria's gospel music scene, with notable cases such as the 2024 lawsuit involving gospel singer Sinach and music producer Michael Oluwol over the joint ownership of a globally acclaimed song.
