YouTube Removes Seyi Vibez's 'Different Pattern' Music Video Over Copyright Issue

YouTube has taken down Seyi Vibez's music video for "Different Pattern" following a copyright complaint related to the alleged unauthorized use of Orlando Owoh's material. The song, known for its vintage Nigerian sound inspired by highlife icon Orlando Owoh and apala musician Musiliu Haruna Ishola, was a prominent track from Seyi Vibez's "Nahamciaga" EP released in December 2023.

Despite its commercial success, the video was reportedly removed from the platform early today. Seyi Vibez, who initially released the song under Dapper Music Label before launching his independent outfit Vibez Inc in September 2024, has been praised for blending traditional Nigerian music influences with modern street-inspired sounds.

The incident underscores the challenges artists face in navigating copyright regulations, especially when incorporating samples from classic works. Orlando Owoh, a revered highlife bandleader who passed away in 2008, and Musiliu Haruna Ishola, a pioneer of apala music who died in 1983, are key figures in Nigerian music history.
