Tinubu Reaffirms Commitment to Combat Drug Abuse in Nigeria

On Friday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assured that his administration is dedicated to eradicating the drug scourge in Nigeria. Speaking at a grand final celebration marking the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Abuja, he highlighted the need for evidence-based innovative interventions to tackle substance abuse and drug trafficking.

Tinubu noted that the global drug problem is evolving, requiring constant vigilance and collective action. He emphasized the importance of creating an environment where young Nigerians can thrive, promoting education, skill development, and entrepreneurship.

The President also called for stronger border management and enhanced surveillance at ports and airports to disrupt drug supply. He commended the leadership of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), particularly Brig Gen Mohammed Buba Marwa, for their relentless efforts against drug cartels.

Tinubu urged civil society and international partners to intensify their commitment to the drug war for a safer and healthier society.
