Sule Lamido and Sons to Face N1.3 Billion Fraud Charges

Sule Lamido, the former governor of Jigawa State, along with his two sons, Aminu Lamido and Mustapha Lamido, is set to face fresh arraignment on April 1, 2026, for alleged fraud amounting to N1.3 billion. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced this in a press statement by spokesperson Dele Oyewale.

The charges include accepting kickbacks from fictitious contract awards during Lamido's tenure as governor from 2007 to 2015. The new arraignment follows a previous failure to present the defendants in court on March 13, 2026, due to the absence of defense counsel Joe Agi, SAN, who cited short notice.

Prosecuting counsel Chile Okoroma, SAN, expressed concern over the defendants' absence and the proper service of the arraignment notice. The case has a history of legal proceedings, including a dismissal of a no-case submission by Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu in November 2022, and a subsequent appeal that was upheld in July 2023.

The Supreme Court later set aside the appeal court's ruling, allowing the case to proceed in the Federal High Court.
