PDP Demands Accountability for Lagos N4.44trn Budget

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has challenged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's administration to account for the N4.44 trillion budget for 2026. The PDP demands clarity on how much of the budget has been released and spent, the projects executed, their completion status, and their impact on residents.

The budget allocates N2.34 trillion for capital expenditure and N2.11 trillion for recurrent expenditure. PDP spokesman Prince Christopher Odianarewo questioned the effectiveness of government spending, asking for evidence of completed infrastructure such as roads, hospitals, and schools.

The party insists on the need for a comprehensive 2026 Budget Implementation and Project Accountability Report, detailing project budgets, expenditures, contractors, and completion statuses. The PDP also seeks information on the state’s debt profile and the allocation of funds to critical sectors like education and healthcare.

They argue that the effectiveness of governance should be measured by tangible improvements in residents' lives rather than the budget size.
