NAAPE Clarifies Stance on NCAA Funding Cuts

The National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE) distanced itself from opposition to the proposed funding cuts to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). In a statement issued in Abuja, NAAPE President Captain Bunmi Gindeh clarified that the association does not officially oppose the proposed reduction of NCAA's statutory allocation from 56 percent to 40 percent.

Gindeh noted that the position circulating in the media did not originate from the national leadership of NAAPE. He emphasized that the NCAA branch exceeded its mandate by making public pronouncements on national policy issues without the approval of the national executive council.

Ahmadu, NAAPE's public relations officer, urged media and aviation stakeholders to distinguish between statements issued by the branch and those approved by the national leadership. The NCAA branch had previously warned that the funding cut would weaken aviation safety oversight and undermine the agency's financial independence.
