NCAA Warns Against Ticket Sale Charge Reduction Impact

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has expressed strong opposition to a proposed reduction in its share of ticket sale charges, which would decrease from five percent to 40 percent in favor of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA). NCAA's Director of Public Affairs, Michael Achimugu, stated that this action could cripple the agency's operations and compromise aviation safety.

He warned that reducing NCAA's financial capacity would hinder its ability to meet regulatory oversight requirements. Achimugu highlighted the critical role of adequate funding in maintaining safety standards and ensuring that inspectors are well-trained and compensated.

He called on stakeholders to carefully consider the implications of this financial adjustment. The NCAA's funding structure is vital for its regulatory functions, and Achimugu noted that the agency's independence and revenue generation capabilities should not be undermined.

The matter has already been discussed with the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who is addressing the issue.
