NACCIMA: Skills Development Crucial for Nigeria's Economy

The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA) has warned that economic transformation in Nigeria cannot be sustained without a parallel transformation in skills development. During a stakeholders' summit in Lagos, NACCIMA President Jani Ibrahim highlighted the significant mismatch between the skills available in the labor market and the demands of various industries.

He noted that while Nigeria has the largest labor market in Africa, a substantial portion of the workforce is engaged in informal and vulnerable employment, lacking the necessary skills for stable growth. Prof.

Abdu Na Allah, Chairman of NACCIMA's Education Committee, pointed out that youth unemployment and underemployment remain critical issues. He emphasized the need for a demand-driven technical and vocational education and training (TVET) system that aligns with real economic needs.

Prof. Adesoji Adesugba also stressed the importance of institutionalizing employment coordination to effectively connect education with labor market demands.
