NADECO Rejects Abdulsalami's Claims on Abiola's Death

NADECO leaders, including Col. Toni Nyiam and Chief Ayo Opadokun, have rejected claims made by former military ruler Gen.

Abdulsalami Abubakar regarding the death of Chief MKO Abiola and the suggestion to extend military rule. In response to Abdulsalami's assertions in his autobiography, which claimed that Abiola was not poisoned and that his death was due to pre-existing health conditions, Nyiam and Opadokun described these accounts as inaccurate.

They emphasized that NADECO's struggle aims to end military dictatorship rather than prolong it. Nyiam questioned the validity of Abdulsalami's claims and stated that no request was made by NADECO to extend military rule.

He also highlighted that the transition to democracy should be based on a constitution created by the Nigerian people, rather than the 1999 constitution imposed by the military. The discussion included references to meetings involving NADECO leaders and current President Bola Tinubu, underscoring the coalition's commitment to a credible democratic transition.
