NAF Airstrike Eliminates Nine ISWAP Fighters in Borno

On August 8, 2026, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) conducted an airstrike in the Sambisa Forest area of Borno State, resulting in the death of nine fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), including a key commander, Abu Khalid Al Muhajir. Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame announced that the operation was based on credible intelligence regarding the movement of suspected terrorists.

A Remotely Piloted Aircraft was deployed for persistent Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance, which led to the identification of a group of terrorists. Following positive identification, the aircraft executed a precision strike on the target location.

The operation was reported to have significant effects, neutralizing several terrorists and disrupting ISWAP's leadership protection and coordination. The NAF indicated that the operation would continue to focus on intelligence-driven air operations to degrade terrorist capabilities in the region.
