NAF Airstrike Eliminates Nine ISWAP Fighters in Borno

On August 8, 2026, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) conducted an airstrike in the Sambisa Forest area of Borno State, resulting in the deaths of nine fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), including a prominent commander, Abu Khalid Al Muhajir. The operation was based on credible intelligence regarding the movement of suspected terrorists.

Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF Headquarters, stated that a Remotely Piloted Aircraft was deployed for persistent Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance operations, which led to the identification of the target. Following confirmation, a precision strike was executed, significantly impacting the targeted compound.

The operation was noted for its effectiveness, as it also targeted terrorists linked to a recent ambush of Nigerian troops along the Bita-Yamtage axis in Gwoza Local Government Area. The death of Al Muhajir, who was responsible for providing security escorts for senior ISWAP members, is considered a major operational setback for the group.
