Nigerian Drone Strike Eliminates 15 ISWAP Terrorists

On July 21, a Nigerian military drone strike in Marte Local Government Area, Borno State, killed an estimated 15 suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists. Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that the operation was intelligence-led and commenced at approximately 5:35 a.m. after credible intelligence indicated the presence of terrorists near KLA Balia.

An Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform, codenamed Guardian, identified three vehicles and five terrorists taking cover under a tree. Following positive identification, a precision strike was executed, killing the five suspects and causing secondary explosions that led to the estimated total of 15 casualties.

A subsequent attempt to strike the concealed vehicles failed due to a malfunction in the laser targeting system. Despite this setback, military sources deemed the operation a significant success, inflicting heavy casualties on ISWAP and disrupting their activities.

Ongoing surveillance and potential follow-up operations are planned to target remaining terrorists and vehicles.
