NAF Enhances Civilian Protection in Anti-Terror Operations

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting civilian lives while intensifying operations against terrorist groups across the country. Director of Public Relations and Information, Ehimen Ejodam, disclosed this on Tuesday, highlighting remarks made by Chief of Air Staff Sunday Kelvin Anek during the inauguration of a basic civilian harm mitigation course on Monday in Abuja.

Anek noted that joint military operations have significantly degraded the operational freedom of terrorist elements, who are increasingly resorting to desperate tactics. He emphasized that military operations should not only focus on effectiveness but also on strengthening operational legitimacy and enhancing mission success to safeguard civilian lives.

The training course aims to deepen participants' understanding of international humanitarian law and the rules of engagement to minimize civilian harm. Anek also mentioned that modern military success is no longer defined solely by tactical outcomes but also by the perception of the public regarding civilian harm prevention.
