NAFDAC Warns of Counterfeit Colgate Toothpaste in Nigeria

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has alerted Nigerians to the circulation of counterfeit Colgate toothpaste, specifically two products: "Coglaet Activgel 100g" and "Coglaet Herbal 100g," identified in Kaduna State. This warning follows complaints received during post-market surveillance, which prompted an investigation by NAFDAC officials.

During inspections, officials discovered that the shop owners could not provide proof of purchase for the counterfeit products, which were reportedly sold door-to-door. NAFDAC has advised distributors and retailers to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of products before sale.

Consumers are encouraged to report any suspected counterfeit or substandard products to the nearest NAFDAC office or through the agency's official communication channels, including a helpline and online reporting platform. The agency continues its efforts to combat counterfeit goods, having recently flagged products with altered expiration dates linked to adverse effects in infants.
