NAFDAC Intensifies Crackdown on Fake Drugs and Foods

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has intensified its crackdown on fake, substandard, and unwholesome regulated products, warning manufacturers, importers, and distributors involved in illegal trade that enforcement operations will be a regular exercise. Dr. Martins Iluyomade, the director of Investigation and Enforcement at NAFDAC, stated that the destruction of confiscated products is part of the agency's routine responsibilities.

NAFDAC regularly invites relevant government agencies and stakeholders to witness these destruction exercises to promote transparency and accountability. Although there have been concerns that excessive publicity surrounding these exercises could negatively impact the marketability of legitimate products, Iluyomade emphasized that the need to expose and destroy dangerous products takes precedence.

He noted that the agency's enforcement efforts encompass various product categories, including fake drugs, adulterated drinks, and unwholesome food products, highlighting the importance of collaboration among government agencies in protecting consumers.
