NAMA Addresses Pension Delays for Retirees' Benefits

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has attributed the delays in the payment of outstanding retirees' benefits to longstanding bureaucratic policies and pension-related challenges inherited from previous administrations. The agency's management, under Managing Director Farouk Umar, has taken concrete steps to address these issues.

In response to allegations of mismanagement raised during a recent television interview, NAMA, through its spokesperson Abdullahi Musa, clarified that the problem of unpaid retiree benefits did not originate from the current leadership. Musa stated that the agency is committed to resolving the backlog of payments and has engaged relevant stakeholders to commence the necessary processes for settlement.

However, NAMA explained that the disbursement process is governed by strict public service regulations that require compliance with statutory procedures, including budgetary appropriations and government approvals. The agency also noted that it has implemented significant welfare reforms and improvements in employee conditions under Farouk Umar's leadership, including a new salary structure aimed at enhancing employee remuneration.
