NANS Criticizes Power Crisis Impacting Students in Nigeria

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has expressed deep concern over the persistent power crisis affecting campuses across six southwestern states in Nigeria. In a statement issued by the coordinator for NANS Southwest Zone, Josiah Adeyemo, students have been enduring prolonged blackouts that disrupt academic activities, online learning, and research for several months.

The situation has become particularly distressing during critical academic periods, such as examinations, leaving students unable to study effectively and complete assignments on time. The lack of electricity has also raised safety concerns, as dark campuses can lead to increased criminal activities, including theft and armed robbery, putting students and their belongings at risk.

NANS has called on the federal government to take immediate action to address the electricity challenges and restore stable power supply, expressing a lack of confidence in the current leadership of the Ministry of Power under Bayo Adelabu. The association emphasized that students deserve a reliable system that supports their learning and ensures safety in educational institutions.
