NANS Protests Poor Electricity Supply in Osogbo

On November 27, 2023, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) held a peaceful protest in Osogbo, Osun State, addressing the poor electricity supply affecting tertiary institutions in the region. The protest, led by South West Coordinator Josiah Adeyemo, aimed to draw attention to the inadequacies of electricity supply that have severely impacted academic activities and student life.

Protesters carried placards with messages demanding no increase in electricity tariffs, restoration of power infrastructure, and an increase in power output. Adeyemo expressed dissatisfaction with the current electricity crisis, stating that the government must prioritize stable electricity supply as a basic amenity.

He warned that failure to engage relevant authorities on power issues would lead to mass protests. The protest culminated in a seven-day ultimatum given to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company to restore power supply, with threats of collective action if demands are not met.
