NAPTIP Condemns Assaults at Delta Festival, Supports Arrests

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) condemned the sexual assaults on female students during a traditional festival held in Ozoro, Delta State, on March 19. Reports indicated that young women were chased, stripped, and molested in broad daylight, leading to widespread condemnation from residents.

NAPTIP described the attacks as a violation of human rights and dignity, labeling them as acts of gender-based violence. The agency commended the swift response of the Nigeria Police Force in Delta State, which resulted in the arrest of several suspects, including community leaders linked to the event.

The Delta State government also condemned the assaults, calling them barbaric and unacceptable. Public Relations Officer Bright Edaf confirmed the arrests and stated that a full-scale investigation would be launched to ensure justice for the victims and prevent future occurrences.

The incident has sparked significant outrage and highlighted the need for protective measures for women in such cultural gatherings.
