Nasarawa Communal Crisis Claims 11 Lives, Destroys Homes

A violent communal crisis in Nasarawa state claimed 11 lives and destroyed 52 houses, with incidents occurring last Friday in Akyawa and Udeg Kasa. The violence, attributed to reprisals following the alleged killing of two kinsmen, prompted a response from police spokesperson Ramhan Nansel, who confirmed the scale of the violence.

The attacks led to the displacement of residents, loss of livestock, and destruction of property, with reports indicating that 15 cows, along with sheep and poultry, were killed. Victims, including Hassan Ibrahim, who lost two nephews, and Zakari Musa, who described the devastation, called for urgent government intervention to restore security and compensate victims.

The crisis has left families mourning significant losses, with many residents fleeing their homes in panic. Community leaders, including Michael Christoph Eray, emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to address recurring violence and facilitate dialogue among affected groups.
