NASENI Launches Youth Innovation Pipeline for Nigeria
The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) is developing a structured pipeline for Nigeria's young innovators, transitioning 60 technology developers from virtual prototyping to mentorship and funding opportunities. This initiative has resulted in six zonal champions who will compete for a N5 million grand prize at the upcoming NASENI Invention Fest.
The finalists were selected during FutureMakers Week, NASENI Innovation Hub's flagship youth innovation program, which engaged innovators aged five to 16 from Nigeria's six geopolitical zones. Participants created prototypes during a virtual hackathon and presented their solutions to judges.
The zonal winners are Ruqayya Safwa Faruq (North West), Joshua Agboola (South West), Mary Oluwabusayomi Umahonlen (North Central), Precious Akabude-Odozi (South South), Emmanuel Paul (North East), and Ogbonna-Nwota Gold (South East). The innovations include an AI-powered learning platform and an emergency alert system.
Khalil Suleiman Halilu, NASENI Executive Vice Chairman/CEO, emphasized the program's goal of establishing a sustained innovation pipeline. All participants will have continued access to mentorship and training.
