Naval Base to Enhance Security in Taraba Waterways

On Monday, Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State received a delegation from the Nigerian Navy, led by Chief Administrator Rear Admiral Jonathan Joseph Nwunuji Mamman, at the Ty Danjuma House in Jalingo. During this meeting, Kefas emphasized the importance of establishing a naval base in Taraba State to enhance security along its waterways.

He commended the Chief of Naval Staff for prioritizing national security and acknowledged the Navy's commitment to expanding its operational presence in the state. The Navy has already conducted assessments for a proposed site for the base, which is crucial for safeguarding the waterways, particularly the Kashimbila waterway, which forms part of the boundary between Taraba State and Cameroon.

Rear Admiral Mamman highlighted that the unprotected waterways pose significant security risks, and the establishment of the naval base would enhance surveillance, deter criminal activities, and improve overall security in the area. The naval base is also expected to provide training opportunities for local residents and support security operations alongside the Marine Police.
