Nigerian Navy Seizes 87,000 Litres of Illegal Fuel

The Nigerian Navy has intensified its efforts against crude oil theft and illegal refining in the Niger Delta, uncovering a concealed fuel storage facility in the Okarki axis of Rivers State. During this operation, approximately 87,000 litres of suspected illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) were recovered.

This operation was conducted under Operation Delta Sentinel, which focuses on dismantling illegal refining sites and disrupting crude oil theft networks. A statement from Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunso, the Director of Naval Information, confirmed that personnel from the Nigerian Navy Ship SOROH executed the operation based on credible intelligence.

The operation revealed a hidden storage facility used for illegal stockpiling of petroleum products, along with equipment for unlawful storage and handling. The Navy emphasized that this discovery underscores the ongoing challenges posed by criminal networks in the region and their tactics to maintain concealed storage and distribution points for illicit petroleum products.
